04.30.08: Crap meet Emmy…Emmy meet crap
Posted in General Hospital, News with tags abc, cbs, crap, daytime emmys on April 30, 2008 by bingoSo, as most of you have probably already heard or seen, the 2008 Daytime Emmy nominations were announced today. And the winner is…CBS…better known as the collective bargaining station. The Emmys are no longer based on who has the best talent…like everything else, it’s turned into a popularity contest, which in my humble opinion is quite unfortunate. It’s not all CBS’ fault though, no no no. ABC is fully to blame as well.
Actors are not magicians. There’s only so much actors can do with the crap that the execs call writing. Even the most wonderful actors cannot spin snot into gold, it just doesn’t happen. What’s sad is that ABC has clearly stopped writing for their actors. It’s pretty much, ‘we’re going to write whatever the hell we want to, and you’re going to do it whether it makes you look like an idiot or not.’ So I guess if you want to wholeheartedly blame someone, blame the ABC executives and writers. If actors have better material to work with you’re going to get better results, it’s just fact. If they get crap all of the time, like I said, there’s only so much even a great actor can do with it.
With that said, I think it’s hysterical that GH was nominated for best drama series while getting virtually snubbed to the high heavens in every other category imaginable (congrats to Tony Geary by the way). To me that says, well your show is good enough to get nominated, but your actors are not. Do TIIC care? Probably not. Now that GH has gotten nominated for best series, they assume things are fine, when in fact they are very very very far left of fine. Another interesting tidbit, juggernaught CBS swept up a good 75% of the main category nominations, but our beloved ABC will host the Daytime Emmys on June 20th.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I’m out. ![]()
